Man, 22, admits leaving crash scene where boy died in hit and run

A man has admitted leaving the scene of a crash following the death of a 15-year-old boy in a hit-and-run collision.

Leo Meek appeared in court this morning accused of killing Jack Jones, who sadly died after being knocked off his bike on Monday.

Police were called to Manor Road in Upton at 9.45pm where a driver failed to stop at the scene.

Yesterday (Wednesday) Leo Meek, 22, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Meek, of West Way, Moreton, appeared in the dock at Wirral Magistrates' Court this morning before Magistrates Ash and Scott where he faced the two charges.

The 22-year-old appeared in the dock wearing a grey jumper and joggers and spoke to confirm his name, age and address.

He pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene and was not asked to enter a plea to causing death by dangerous driving.

A clerk explained the second charge is so serious it can only be dealt with at a crown court.

Lydia Durkin prosecuted the case on the behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service while Laura Flynn defended Meek.

Meek will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court on May 27.

He was remanded in custody until that date.
