Man, 21, told he had 'days to live' could be given second chance

A 21-year-old who was told he could have just days to live has defied doctors' estimations - and has now been offered a lifeline.

Owen Copland, a drama student at Liverpool John Moores University, suffered headaches for around a month before being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in November last year.

He underwent a life-saving operation days later and since then he has endured radiotherapy plus additional surgeries.

But despite Owen’s desperate fight for life, scans in March revealed significant growth in the tumour, leaving doctors with no choice but to give an extremely bleak prognosis.

He potentially only had days to live.

Owen has defied the doctors' estimations, managing to reach his 21st birthday, and graduate from his drama course at university.

He is now determined to travel to Germany where private medicines could be tailored to his condition.

His sister, Jane Copland, told the ECHO : "Owen has been making improvements, mentally and physically.

"He has been awake and more alert and is even having days out. He does physio thanks to his local gym stepping in and providing him with a personal trainer."

Just two months ago, Owen could not lift his arms.

Since starting sessions with Alex Ivanoff at Anytime Fitness in Maghull, he can now sit outside, feed himself, write and play chess.

During a recent private consultation Owen was offered chemotherapy while he and his family look into getting a full tumour analysis in Germany.

This is to see whether there are any private medicines tailored to Owen's mutations or if a vaccine could be made to help Owen's body fight the cancer.

Jane continued: "Owen is aware his cancer is aggressive, but he doesn't want to die without trying to get life saving treatment.

"The price of the treatment is going to be costly so we are asking for people to kindly give what they can or even share the link to help get awareness out of Owen's story.

"Owen deserves to have a chance at life and the very least, try to prolong his life."

So far, the family has raised £2,518 of a £100,000 goal.
