Man, 21, injured as police car and modified mountain bike crash

A cyclist was injured and arrested for suspected drug driving after a crash between a police car and modified mountain bike this morning.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Balliol Road and Stanley Road in Bootle after the smash between the police patrol car and the electric powered mountain bike at 3.25am.

One witness told the ECHO he saw a number of vehicles at the scene of the crash close to Hugh Baird College and "a pedal bike visible on the floor".

Today Merseyside Police said the 21-year-old man riding the bike escaped with "slight injuries" and he was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and possessing cannabis.

Nobody else was hurt as a result of the crash and it is not believed anyone was taken to hospital.
