Man, 21, charged after shots fired near shops

A 21 year old man was charged after shots were fired near a parade of shops.

Armed police were called out to Hillside Road in Huyton to reports of shots being fired near to Longview shops at around 9.45pm last on Monday, August 16.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Locals, who heard a number of 'loud bangs', said that the firearms incident on their doorstep was unsettling.

Today police said a local man was charged in relation to the incident.

Jamie McClune from Cassino Road was charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent.

Police released a statement which read: "Detectives have charged a man in connection to a report of shots fired in Huyton last Monday, 16 August.

"At around 9.45pm, armed officers were called to Hillside Road to reports of shots being fired near to Longview shops.

"As part of continued enquiries, a suspected imitation firearm was seized from an address in the area last week, and two people arrested.

"21-year-old Jamie McClune from Cassino Road has now been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent and remanded in custody to next appear on Friday 17 September."

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith, from the force's firearms investigation team, said that the investigation was ongoing.

He said: "This investigation continues, and if you have any information about what happened, or the storage, possession or use of any firearms in Merseyside, contact us now and we will continue this swift and positive action."
