Man, 21, arrested after pair hospitalised in 'brutal' double stabbing

A man has been arrested after a two people were 'brutally' stabbed in Oldham.

A 34-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were taken to hospital after the attack on Ashford Walk in Chadderton at around 10.50am yesterday (Monday).

The man was stabbed multiple times and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

The woman had injuries to her face and has since been discharged.

Police then launched a hunt for the attacker who ran away from the scene.

He is believed to have stabbed the pair after an argument.

A 21-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of assault.

He remains in custody for questioning and police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Wes Knights of GMP's Oldham CID, said: "This was a serious incident in which two people were brutally attacked, resulting in one man having to undergo surgery at hospital.

"We currently have a man in custody awaiting questioning and I would like to reassure the community that we are not searching for anyone else in relation to this incident."

Residents were left in shock after the incident, with many never seeing another incident like this.

A mum who lives close to the area which was cordoned off said: “It’s a nice, peaceful area, it’s quiet. It’s a shock really."

She's lived there for around six years and has never seen a cordon like this in the area.
