Man, 20s, tragically dies as van strikes tree near Gorey, Co Wexford

A man has tragically died after the van he was driving struck a tree in Co Wexford.

The man, in his late 20s, was driving near Gorey overnight when his vehicle veered off the road.

Emergency services attended the scene at Clonattin Lower, The Arklow Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, who was the sole occupant of the van, was taken to St Vincents Hospital in Dublin where he was pronounced dead.

The garda watchdog, GSOC, has been informed of the single-vehicle crash and are carrying out an investigation.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Gorey are investigating a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision that occurred at Clonattin Lower, The Arklow Road, Gorey, Co. Wexford in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 15th September, 2019.

"The scene is being examined by Garda Forensic Examiners and the road is currently closed with local diversions in place.

"GSOC were informed of this road traffic collision and are conducting an examination.

"Gardaí are appealing for anyone who travelled the road at the time of the collision, and who may have dash cam footage, to contact  Gardaí in Gorey on 053 - 9430690, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
