The incident happened on the Swords Road at the Collins Avenue Junction in Whitehall, Dublin 9 at 12:25am.

The driver fled the scene with the vehicle following the incident.

The man was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Councillor for Artane-Whitehall, Racheal Batten told Dublin Live: "My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim of this tragic incident.

"I would urge the driver of the vehicle to come forward and make themselves known to the gardai.

"I would also appeal for the community to share any information they might have about the incident with the gardai as soon as possible."
