Man, 20, in hospital with injuries after crash on major road through Newport

A man is in a stable condition in hospital following a two-vehicle crash on a dual carriageway.

Gwent Police said they received reports of a crash at the traffic lights on the A4042 junction with Sainsbury's in Newport shortly before 11.20pm on Sunday.

The crash involved a Vauxhall Corsa and a Citreon C1.

A 20-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he remains in a stable condition.

A police spokesperson said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Part of the A4042 was closed for several hours on Monday morning while investigation work was carried out by Gwent Police.

The road was re-opened at 1.20pm on Monday afternoon.

Gwent Police is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or is in possession of any dash-cam footage, is asked to get in contact with Gwent Police by calling 101 quoting reference 2000317675.
