Man, 20, dies after falling from cliff during holiday with friends

A young holidaymaker has died after plunging off a cliff at a seaside resort.

The 20-year-old man was found dead at the bottom of the ridge at around 2.30am on Sunday.

He had been holidaying with friends in Porthcothan, Cornwall.

Cornwall Live says the mates were staying in nearby St Eval near Wadebridge.

The man is believed to have been from Exeter, Devon.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were notified by HM Coastguard just before 2.30am on Sunday 21 April that the body of a man had been found at the bottom of cliffs between Park Head and Porthcothan in Cornwall.

“Officers attended alongside HM Coastguard rescue teams, Lifeboat and helicopter.

“The man was recovered to the cliff top by the Coastguard helicopter. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police will now prepare a file for the coroner.

Porthcothan is a village between Newquay and Padstow.

The sandy beach is popular with tourists and surfers, and is especially busy in the summer holidays.

In January 2014, the area was badly hit by Storm Anne. Buildings were reduced to rubble in Porthcothan.
