Man, 20, charged with killing 90-year-old pensioner at Sefton home

A man is to be prosecuted following the death of a 90-year-old man at a home in Netherton.

Police were called to an initial report of an assault on Wednesday, March 27, which is believed to have taken place at an address in Fatherside Drive, Netherton.

That alleged attack is said to have happened on Sunday, March 24, three days earlier.

The victim - William Burns - was taken to hospital with chest and facial injuries.

He died ten days later on Saturday, April 6.

Now, Merseyside Police has confirmed that Michael Burns, 20, of Fatherside Drive, has been charged with manslaughter.

He was previously charged with grievous bodily assault and had been released on bail.

Burns was charged with manslaughter on Friday.

He will next appear at Merseyside Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday May 15.
