Man, 19, dies after motorbike ploughs into wall outside pub

A man has tragically died after his motorbike ploughed into a wall outside a pub in Wigan - making it the third fatal motorbike collision in Greater Manchester this week.

Emergency services were scrambled to Chapel Street in Leigh at around 1.50am on Saturday (19 March) to reports of a collision outside of Monty's pub.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the rider of the motorbike, who has since been identified as a 19-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been informed and are currently being supported by specially trained officers. No arrests have been made and police believe no other vehicles were involved in the smash.

Eye witnesses described seeing a large police presence outside the pub in Leigh in the early hours of Saturday morning. Chapel Street was closed for a number of hours following the incident.

The youngster's death is the third fatality involving a motorbike in the last few days in Greater Manchester. Two other men lost their lives following crashes on Wednesday and Friday last week.

A 46-year-old man died after a crash between a motorbike and a car on the A57 near to Barton Airport just before 6am on Wednesday, 16 March.

According to police, a car and motorbike collided. The motorcyclist tragically died at the scene. The driver of the car - a Ford Fiesta - remained at the scene to talk to police.

And on Friday (18 March), a man in his 30s was tragically killed after a crash involving his motorbike and a car on Leigh Road in the Boothstown area of the city.

Tragically, the rider of the motorbike suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Earlier today, (Sunday 20 March) another motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on Church Road in Urmston.

Collision investigators are calling for anyone who may have witnessed this latest incident, or may have dash cam footage, to get in touch with police immediately.

In a statement, GMP said: "Officers from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses after the rider of a motorbike was fatally injured in a collision outside a pub in Leigh in the early hours of Saturday.

"We were called at around 1.50am on Saturday 19 March to a report of a collision involving a motorbike and a wall on Chapel Street - outside Monty's pub.

"The rider of the motorbike - a 19-year-old man - sadly died at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency services.

"We have informed his family and our specialist officers will be supporting them at this awful time. No arrests have been made and initial enquiries suggest no other vehicles were involved.

"However, investigators are keen for any witnesses or anyone who may have recorded dash-cam footage in the area in the early hours of today to contact us with any information they may have."
