Man, 18, appears in court in Waterford charged with murder of fisherman Jack Power

An 18-year-old man is due to appear before a special sitting of Waterford District Court at 9pm this evening charged in relation to a fatal stabbing.

Fisherman Jack Power, 25, died in the incident at Shanakiel, Dunmore East, Co Waterford on July 26 last year.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene approximately 3.40am that morning.

The injured Mr Power was discovered at the scene and treated for an apparent stab wound.

He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A 17-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident at the time.

He was later released without charge.

Mr Power’s father Richard was fishing in his trawler off the coast of Wales when his son died. He received the heartbreaking news via satellite phone.

The victim had recently started to skipper his dad’s boat The Girl Geraldine.
