Man, 18, in court over alleged school stabbing

An 18-year-old who allegedly went onto the grounds of a Hobart high school and stabbed a 15-year-old boy has been granted bail.

Kiama Declan Ramsdale did not enter a plea to wounding when he appeared in court today.

It is alleged he stabbed the younger boy in the leg on the grounds of New Town High School during school hours yesterday.

The school has sent an email to parents stating the man was not a member of the school community.

Principal David Kilpatrick told parents the school "did not need to enact our lockdown procedure" following the incident.

Students who witnessed the incident have been offered counselling.
