Police have said a person who died after being hit by a train in Widnes was an 18-year-old man.
The tragic update came on Friday following an incident reported early on Tuesday evening. A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman told the ECHO the man's next of kin has been informed and the death is not believed to be suspicious.
In a statement published on Wednesday, BTP said officers were called to the line at Widnes, between Liverpool South Parkway and Warrington, at 6.26pm on Tuesday. Other emergency services including North West Ambulance Service also responded but sadly the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation was launched and work began on compiling a file for the coroner.
East Midland Railway posted on social media shortly after the incident to inform commuters that services would be delayed or diverted.
An inquest will take place in due course to establish the circumstances of the tragedy and to confirm the man's details.
