Man, 18, arrested after disturbance involving machete in Cheshire

A teenager has been arrested following a disturbance in Cheshire during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police responded to the incident near to The Barrs roundabout, in Chester city centre, shortly after midnight, where they found a man - armed with what is believed to be a machete - was damaging the front of a shop.

The man fled the scene to a nearby underpass and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, affray and possession of an offensive weapon, CheshireLive reports .

The 18-year-old is currently in custody helping police with their enquiries.

Sergeant Andy Smith, from Chester CID, said: “There were a lot of people in the area at the time and I’d like to reassure them that we are doing everything we can to establish exactly what has happened and to ensure that all those involved are located and dealt with.

"Our enquiries are continuing and we have made an arrest. I would urge anyone who has not yet been spoken to as part of our enquiries to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Constabulary on 101 quoting IML 781690 or give the details via www.cheshire.police.uk/ro/report.

Information can also be passed on anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111
