Really big smartphones you can buy

The notion that if you go bigger the phone will become unmanageable is not always true, because a lot depends on your comfort level.

Big-screen phones are very popular with users. A bigger screen offers not just a better video playback experience but makes playing games and reading text much easier. The notion that if you go bigger the phone will become unmanageable is not always true, because a lot depends on your comfort level. We take a look at some of the best smartphones with screen sizes larger than 5.5 inches that you can buy right now.

Moto X Style

Price: Rs.26,999 onwards

The Style belongs to Motorola’s premium range of devices. It is one of the few phones below Rs.30,000 which offers a quad HD display. The 5.7-inch AMOLED display with 2560x1440p resolution not just looks better than its predecessor but better than many of its rivals. The display looks a lot more natural in terms of colour and is also protected against scratches with Gorilla Glass 3. Despite the size, it feels handy and weighs 179g. It also has a water-repellent coating. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 with 2GB RAM, the phone can handle multi-tasking and games without any hiccups. The phone’s key highlight is the uncluttered plain Android UI and Android Marshmallow OS.

Oppo R7 Plus

Price: Rs.29,990

The key highlight of the R7 Plus is its mammoth 6-inch display, which packs in a resolution of only 1920x1080p, but handles colours brilliantly. One of the benefits is that it allows users to switch to warmer tones if they desire to. What impresses more is the fact that the phone doesn’t feel unmanageable and tips the scales at 192g and measures 7.5mm in terms of thickness. The other notable attributes of the phone include a back-facing fingerprint sensor, a long lasting 4,100mAh battery and a 13-megapixel camera that captures colours and details well and has an ultra-HD mode which combines several images to take an equivalent of a 50-megapixel shot. Equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 3GB RAM, the phone can handle all tasks and games well, but tends to heat up a little.

Nexus 6P

Price: Rs.34,799 onwards

Nexus P is a rare Android phone with top of the line hardware and Google’s untarnished user interface. The 5.7-inch AMOLED display packs in an impressive 2560x1440p resolution and is brilliant with colour reproduction and sharpness. The layer of scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 4 adds a bit of protection to it. Its runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and will be the first device along with Nexus 5x to receive all future Google updates for two years. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM delivers quick performance and the 3,450mAh battery can last over a day on a single charge. The 12.3-megapixel camera is a bit of a letdown in this otherwise brilliant device.

Microsoft Lumia 950XL

Price: Rs.34,999

Microsoft may not have the same user base it once had, but it still owns some stunning devices in its portfolio. One such phone is the Lumia 950XL which offers a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560x1440p on top of it. This bright looking display has been beefed up with Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone runs the latest Windows 10 OS and when connected to Microsoft’s display dock (Rs.5,999) and a TV screen can be used as full-fledged Windows 10 PC. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 quad-core processor with 3GB RAM, which is impressive. The 20-megapixel camera delivers slightly oversaturated colours but works well in all lighting conditions.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 dual SIM

Price: Rs.46,900

The Galaxy Note 5 is testimony that big screen doesn’t always result in a heavy phone. In spite of the 5.7-inch display, the phone weighs 171g and is only 7.6mm thick. The AMOLED display offers a resolution of 2560x1440p, which looks better than its predecessor as colour brightness has been toned down a bit to give a more natural look. It also comes with a layer of Gorilla Glass 4. The S-Pen stylus is a lot more useful than it used to be, which enhances it useability for designers and professionals on the move. The phone runs Android 5.1 with an improved and less cluttered TouchWiz interface. The Indian version runs on Exynos octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and is powerful enough to run most tasks smoothly and without any heating up. The 3,000mAh battery can give a day’s backup at most if not stressed too much.
