Malta has announced that it will pay tourists to come and visit the island over the summer holidays.
The country's tourism authorities have launched a new scheme which will pay visitors up to €100 (approximately £86) when they book a stay at a hotel for at least three nights.
The amount you receive will depend on the level of hotel that you book.
Tourists can get €100 for a stay at a 5* hotel, €75 for a stay at a 4* hotel, and €50 for a stay at a 3* hotel. The payments are given to individual travellers - so there are multiple people on booking, they will each receive the money.
It's hoped that the new scheme will attract around 35,000 tourists to the sun-soaked island.
The good news is that Brits could well be some of the visitors able to make use of the scheme.
That's because Malta has already said it will welcome back vaccinated Brits from June 1 with no need for a further Covid test. (You will however need to have received the second dose of one of the approved jabs at least 10 days before arriving in Malta).
Of course there is currently a ban on non-essential travel for Brits as part of lockdowns in the UK. However the government has said that summer holidays abroad are on the cards for Brits, the earliest date foreign travel could resume being May 17.
When travel restarts it will operate on a traffic light system with countries on a green, amber or red list which will determine requirements for testing and quarantine.
The green list will allow Brits to visit somewhere and return with no need for quarantine, and is the one we'll be keeping an eye on for holidays.
Although we don't yet have a confirmed list of destinations, there are some strong contenders for the green list already - and Malta is one of them.
Malta has relatively low numbers of Covid cases, has a successful vaccination roll-out and has started to ease its lockdown restrictions, so it could be in shape for the green list come summer.
