Malone Rugby Club hits the road in memory of Patrick ‘Chippy’ Baird

Malone Rugby Club has hit the road in memory of former club president and chairman, Patrick ‘Chippy’ Baird.

Players from the senior men and women's teams ran a half marathon last Sunday, which was supported by club members in a Fun Run/Walk.

'Chippy' was involved with Malone for over 35 years as a player, president and executive chairman and dedicated much of his life to making the club progressive and inclusive to all.

"'Chippy' sadly passed away suddenly in early December 2020 due to a hidden heart condition," a club official said.

"On Sunday past, the Malone club banded together across the world and members, no matter where they are now, were encouraged to get out and run or walk in memory of Chippy.

"At present, the event has raised a staggering £6,735 for Chest, Heart, and Stroke, and with drop buckets and last-minute donations still to be counted the club hopes to break the £7,000 barrier.

"Malone RFC would like to thank everyone who took part and helped out in any way."
