Mall Dini out of Grand National 2019 in punters Aintree shock

Mall Dini is out of the 2019 Grand National on Saturday, with Just A Par now running instead at Aintree.

The Patrick Kelly-trained nine-year-old was declared among the original 40 runners at 10am on Thursday morning, but has since been pulled.

"He's got a leg injury and will not run,” owner Philip Reynolds was quoted by the Racing Post.

This comes after Joe Farell just crept into the 40 for trainer Rebecca Curtis after Willie Mullins decided not to declare Pairofbrowneyes for the Grand National.

Reserves can still be called up for non-runners like Mall Dini until 1pm on Friday afternoon. After that any potential non-runners will not be replaced and the Grand National will start with fewer than 40 in the field.

Punters had been favouring Mall Dini with Oddschecker reporting that he was the fifth most-backed horse with 5.7 per cent of bets from the market so far.

Tiger Roll is aiming to repeat the feat set by Red Rum in 1974 by winning the Grand National for the second consecutive year with the horse already backed into 7/2.
