Malky Mackay questions added on time in lead up to Celtic opener

Malky Mackay insists it was 'surprising and interesting' that Celtic scored the opening goal in their 3-0 victory over Ross County after the allotted amount of injury time.

David Turnbull struck just after the six minutes added on at the end of the first half in Dingwall.

The midfielder's sweet strike from distance set Brendan Rodgers' much-changed line-up on their way to three points, with Luis Palma and James Forrest rounding off the scoring.

VAR was heavily involved during the first half, with several stoppages for video reviews required. This led to a hefty amount of stoppage time being added on, but Mackay was not happy that Celtic's goal came after the time was complete.

He said: "I thought we had weathered the storm and to lose the goal at six minutes and six seconds is surprising and interesting. It was a bit of a sickener.

"It was a great strike clearly in the only place he could have put it. Yan goes to block it and it goes through his legs and into the only place our keeper couldn't get to.

"That gave us a mountain to climb but I thought we stuck at it, were organised and disciplined. Their runs were always going to be very good - we matched most of them.

"We were kind of hoping then to get a set play to get us back into it but I've got to be proud of my team. On another day, you go a man down to Celtic and they're playing well, that could be six or seven."

Rodgers had some complaints of his own. He said: "I thought we created a lot of chances and had some goals disallowed that I would need to see again, especially the offside and even the one before that early on.

"You have two guys jumping for the ball and the ball lands and we finish, and it is not given as a goal. I did not see that as a good decision, but the guys kept going and persevering."
