Malky Mackay facing Ross County backlash as fan chief takes supporter concerns to Roy MacGregor

Raging Ross County fans who are against the appointment of Malky Mackay as their new boss have had their feelings made clear to chairman Roy MacGregor.

Some Staggies supporters are against the imminent move for Mackay to succeed his former Celtic team-mate John Hughes in Dingwall.

It comes as a result of the 49-year-old being the subject of an English FA investigation seven years ago concerning text messages sent containing discriminatory languages.

Mackay apologised at the time for sending three “completely unacceptable” messages during his time as Cardiff City manager and said: “What I said at the time I deeply regret” but insisted “I’m no racist, I’m no sexist, I’m no homophobe, I’m not antisemitic”.

He returned to football when he was appointed SFA performance director but left his Hampden role last year as part of cost-cutting due to Covid.

Now Mackay is set for a return to club football with Ross County - and fans against the appointment have contacted the club.

Ross County Supporter Liaison Officer Kenny MacLennan took to social media to say: “As Supporter Liaison Officer for Ross County I represent the concerns and views of the supporters.

“Regarding the rumoured imminent appointment of a new manager, I have expressed the concerns of the supporters directly to the club.”

Speaking after the departure of Hughes, MacGregor said that he wants to revisit “what Ross County is, what does it stand for and what does it represent” and some fans reckon appointing Mackay flies in the face of that statement.
