Malin Anderson has revealed that being in the limelight prompted her to undergo plastic surgery.
The former Love Island star appeared on the ITV dating show back in 2016, and after facing harsh criticism online over her appearance, her ‘self-esteem plummeted completely’.
While in the famous villa, Malin admitted that she felt as though she had to put on a 'brave face' when in actual fact, she felt as though she was ‘dying inside’.
After the show ended and she quickly became a household name, the body activist recalled feeling the need to change her entire appearance.
The reality TV star booked herself in for liposuction and a breast uplift in Turkey after feeling the pressures to look ‘perfect’ amid her rise to fame.
Malin lifted the lid on the lasting impact of appearing on Love Island during an honest interview on Lookfantastic's new YouTube channel series, Fearless.
“It was overwhelming when I saw the trolling about my appearance,” she explained.
“That added fuel to the fire and when I came out, I thought, ‘Right, I've got to change my whole f***ing appearance, I need to get this done and that done.’ My self-esteem plummeted completely.”
Although was felt blinded at the time, Malin has since realised that feeling the need to change her appearance to stay relevant was a complete ‘farce’.
The TV star admitted: “Even though you put on a brave face and you're on social media trying to pretend you're living the high life, actually you're dying inside. It's all a farce, it's absolute bull***t.
“I booked myself into Turkey and went for a bit of lipo and a breast uplift. But having that done didn't solve anything that was going on in my head. It's just a band-aid.”
After her time on Love Island, Malin’s bubble quickly burst.
During the candid chat, she admitted that she felt like a ‘lost little soul’ with no real job after the show ended.
“I was such a lost little soul. I didn't know what I was doing with my life career-wise, work-wise, family, everything was kind of slipping out of my hands.
“I fell into a really dark place, the lowest I'd been to be fair.”
Thankfully, Malin has been able to turn her life around and has since been inspiring thousands of women across the globe with her body positivity posts on social media.
