Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee during Sunday's win against the Chargers, ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed Monday.
The tests confirmed the worst suspicions surrounding Nabers's painful-looking knee injury that saw him get carted off in the second quarter of the game. Nabers had racked up 127 catches across his first two pro seasons with the Giants, including 18 grabs for 271 yards and two touchdowns in four games this year.
Nabers suffered the injury while trying to bring down a catch on the right sideline when his right leg appeared to buckle after planting on the turf at MetLife Stadium. After the incident, former Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. called out the NFL for not getting rid of the artificial surface at "DeathLife" sooner in the interest of player health and safety. Nabers is second behind only Beckham Jr. in most receptions by a player through his first 20 career games.
"Unfortunately this is a business of injury. I feel terrible for Malik's injury, we'll see where it's at. ... It's next man up," Giants coach Brian Daboll said after Sunday's 21-18 victory.
