This photo, which appeared suddenly on Instagram last night, is fairly seismic for two reasons: one, it’s allegedly 16-year-old Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of the US president who has thus far been banned from all social media, seen posing through an X-Pro II filter. And, two, her T-shirt is official merchandise from Brooklyn-based hip hop collective, Pro Era, famous for crew member Joey Bada$$, currently using the image to promote their wares. Speculation over the girl’s identity is currently Breaking the Internet – could it be a doppelgänger? Is the whole thing a stint to promote the New Era album, B4.DA.$$ out in a few weeks? Why isn’t she wearing a Chance the Rapper T-shirt? According to Gawker, who contacted a representative for Joey Bada$$, Pro Era received the photo from “a mutual friend of Malia and the pro era member”. Either way, this much we do know: Pro Era have a strong merch line. We like the socks, especially.
