Male stabbed and woman hurt at street party - a boy, 14, was arrested

A male was stabbed and a female was injured at a street party on the hottest day of the year in Newton Heath.

Police officers were first called to 'reports of a disturbance' on Harmer Close at around 8.15pm last night (Tuesday). They arrived to find dozens of people blasting music from a sound system on a football and basketball court.

A male was found to have been stabbed at the scene. A female was found with 'minor injuries', police said.

Officers arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of assault and robbery. He remains in custody to be quizzed by detectives.

Police put a dispersal order in place to break up the party. This allows officers to direct any person to leave a place within the area and not return, or risk arrest.

Stop and search powers in the area were also stepped up. In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a disturbance on Harmer Close in Newton Heath just after 8.15pm last night (20 July 2022).

"Officers attended and found a street party taking place. A male was also found with stab wounds and a woman was found with minor injuries.

"A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and robbery and remains in custody at this time. A dispersal order was put in place, along with a section 60 order until this morning which gives officers increased stop and search powers in a particular area.

"Enquiries are on-going and anyone with information can report it online or via LiveChat at www.gmp.police.uk, or call 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0880 555 111."
