Male leopard found dead in Punjab's Ropar; consigned to flames after post-mortem

PATIALA: A four to five years old male leopard was found lying dead on Friday morning at Ropar – Nurpur Bedi road near Garh bagga village of Punjab's Ropar district following which the post-mortem of the dead animal was carried out.

The officials said that after getting the preliminary reports over the cause of death, the dead leopard was consigned to flames as the animal falls under the Schedule One category of the Wildlife Act.

The wildlife officials said that the leopard might have been hit with a speeding vehicle following which he died on the spot.

"There were no bullet injuries found on the dead body of the leopard. The postmortem reports revealed that the leopard died due to severe loss of blood and fracture. It was around four to five years old. There has been an increase of herbivorous animal population in the area and leopards usually enter into the Nangal and Anandpur Sahib areas from the hilly areas. The dead body was consigned to flames", said Ropar DFO Wildlife, Kulraj Singh.
