A person died Thursday after being shot in South Shore.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 2:17 a.m. and found a male critically wounded in the driver’s side of a vehicle that was stopped on a sidewalk in the 2800 block of East 79th Street, Chicago police said.

He had been shot twice in the chest and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not yet released details on this fatality.

There are no witnesses to the shooting at this time, police said. Area South detectives are investigating.
