The Philadelphia Eagles sit at 1-2 on the young NFL season and if not for a handful of poor plays, could be undefeated or sitting at 2-1. During Sunday’s home loss to the Detroit Lions, the Eagles were hit with the boo-birds during a porous first half of football.
Malcolm Jenkins is an Eagles leader and understands the rabid fanbase because he’s a South Jersey native. During a session with the Eagles media, Jenkins harped on the need for his teammates to be “mentally tough” amid their struggles, especially when it comes to dealing with fans and their expectations.
“You just gotta be tough,” Jenkins said via The Inquirer. “In this city, the way the media is, we’re going to hear everything about how bad we are and how big this Thursday’s game is. All of those different things that create pressure and create unnecessary distractions. But at the end of the day, it’s still football.”
Jenkins was nearly a hero after blocking a Lions field goal late in the fourth quarter that could have extended Detroit’s lead. That mental toughness will come in handy, as the Eagles travel to Lambeau Field on a short week, to face the Green Bay Packers.
