NARATHIWAT: A Malaysian garage owner was shot dead and a Malaysian worker wounded by gunmen in Sungai Kolok district on Tuesday night.

The attack occurred about 8.30pm at a garage on Soi Pracharuamjai, off Pathan Uthit Road, in tambon Pasemas, said Pol Lt Par Pintadong, deputy investigation chief at Sungai Lokok police station.

Police and soldiers sent to the scene found six spent M16 cartridges on the road in front of the garage.

Two Malaysian nationals  - Sulaimi Bin Mat Ali, 54, owner of the garage, and his employee Muhammad Shahrul Alman Bin Mohd AB Azis, 19 - were hit by bullets. They were rushed to Sungai Kolok Hospital.

The owner, who was shot three times, was later pronounced dead. The employee had surgery for a bullet wound to his right hand.

Police said the assailants struck when the two men were eating a meal inside the garage. Two men arrived on a motorcycle and parked in front of the garage. The pillion rider then fired six shots at the two men through the open door.

Police initially suspected the murder stemmed from a personal conflict. The investigation was continuing.
