Malayalis seek train home via UT

MOHALI: Malayalee Samajam, Mohali a socio-cultural organisation comprising residents of Kerala in the city, demanded diversion of Amritsar-Kochuveli express train via Chandigarh. Sivaramakrishnan K S, president, Malayalee Samajam, Mohali wrote a letter to divisional railway manager, Ambala Division making the request.

In the recent past, Sivaramakrishnan said that a few Superfast trains running between Amritsar and Mumbai diverted through Chandigarh Station instead of going directly towards Ambala Cantt from Ludhiana.

He said, "Likewise, we are requesting your good-self to consider the same pattern in the case of Train Nunber 12483 and 12484 running between Amritsar to Kochuveli (in Kerala state). As this train is running between North and South India including the tourist spot of Goa and Northern Karnataka by covering 11 major states of India, a large number of passengers commute to and fro in this train. So, the need to route this train via Chandigarh is felt which will facilitate hundreds of Keralites living here in tricity."
