Malang Sarr reacts on Instagram after Chelsea transfer is announced

Malang Sarr is now a Chelsea player.

The centre-back had been a free agent ever since his contract with Nice expired at the end of last season, meaning he's not cost the Blues a single penny.

Sarr becomes the Blues' fourth signing of the summer transfer window, joining Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell as the new faces at Stamford Bridge.

The ultimate lowdown on Malang Sarr

However, unlike the aforementioned trio, the 21-year-old won't feature for Chelsea in the 2020/21 season.

Instead, he will be loaned out to ensure his development is not halted and will hope to return next summer and convince Blues head coach Frank Lampard that he's ready for first-team football in the Premier League.

For now, Sarr is reflecting on making a huge step in his career.

Just hours after his Chelsea transfer was announced, the defender took to social media and penned an emotional farewell message to his former club.

"Nice supporters, the time has come for me to say goodbye to you," he wrote on Instagram. "I spent 16 wonderful years at OGC Nice.

"Thank you to all the people at the club who have allowed me to grow as a player but also as a man.

"Issa Nissa."

Signing players for the future and loaning them out is a tried and tested formula for many Premier League clubs including Chelsea.

And club director Marina Granovskaia has explained why the club have made this decision with Sarr.

"The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss," she told the club's official website.

"He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea.

"We are very happy to welcome him to the club today."
