Malahide cafe opening on Christmas Day to raise funds for local family in need

A cafe in Malahide has made the decision to open on Christmas Day to help a local family in need.

A Do on Malahide's New Street shared a touching post on social media explaining that all proceeds raised on the day will go towards the family.

Taking to Instagram, the cafe wrote: "In order to share some community support for our first Christmas in Malahide, we are opening from 10-12.30pm on the 25th.

"Now now don't fret we aren't totally bonkers in here, but we do want to help out. Therefore, the A Do team have decided to donate all earnings on the day to a local Malahide family in need. So pop down and try use cash folks as it is for charity."

They added: "Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and thank you to all our great customers the last few months, we appreciate you and your kind souls.

"Also now you can deck the halls with loadsa coffee on Christmas day??? Sold."

Cafe owner Krishna Padayachee explained to Dublin Live that there is a "brilliant community spirit" in Malahide and that he wanted to give back.

He said: "I'm was born and bred in Malahide. We opened in April and the response has been amazing."

He added: "We wanted to give back to the community so we found a family in need and decided to open for just two and a half hours on Christmas Day."

Krishna, whose father was a GP in Malahide for over 40 years, revealed that there has been a massive response to the Instagram post already, and they have already received some donations.

A Do Cafe opened in Malahide earlier this year and has since become popular for its speciality coffee, vegan-friendly fair and sustainable practices.
