Making sense of the Russell Wilson-to-New York rumors

We are getting to that point in the offseason where NFL pundits need stuff to talk about. The Super Bowl is over, free agency has yet to begin, and the combine is still weeks away.

It’s times like these that rumors, many that have very little to stand on, come to the forefront. And that’s exactly what happened when Colin Cowherd had a segment on his show that indicated that Russell Wilson, and his wife, Ciara, want out of Seattle.

He also indicated that the New York Giants could be in play for the star quarterback’s services.

Cowherd cited a source in the entertainment industry who said that Ciara would prefer to live in New York as it would help her music career. While moving to New York would no doubt help Ciara and Wilson in regards to exposure for their brand, and the many brands that Wilson is involved with, it’s hardly enough to base a rumor of this nature on.

However, Wilson is nearing the end of his contract (which runs through 2019) and there have yet to be any talks of a contract extension. That alone will fuel the fire on Wilson rumors — but it shouldn’t be too much of a concern for Seahawks fans.

Wilson has made no indication himself that he wants out of Seattle, and although some believe his talents could be better utilized with a pass-heavy offensive coordinator, Wilson has already proved he can win here in Seattle with coach Pete Carroll.

Until an extension is signed, there will be more Wilson rumors that Seahawks fans will have to endure.
