Making NFL comparisons for new Ravens WR Marquise Brown

Eric DeCosta has chosen to invest in offense with his first ever selection as the general manager of the Baltimore Ravens, taking wide receiver Marquise Brown out of Oklahoma with the 25th overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft. And if his NFL player comparison is accurate, the Ravens just acquired a devastating weapon for quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire compared Brown to Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, taking note of both players’ elite speed.

“But the one thing you can’t teach on a football field is speed, and Brown, the cousin of star receiver Antonio Brown, has the ability to accelerate downfield that will have teams overlooking size issues just as they did with DeSean Jackson when Jackson came out of Cal in 2008.”

In 11 NFL seasons, Jackson has caught 589 passes for 10,261 yards and 53 touchdowns, 24 of which were of 60 yards or greater — a NFL record. If Brown is even half as good as Jackson was, Baltimore will have a dangerous weapon to attack defenses with for years to come.

With Brown both filling a great area of need for the Ravens while also already garnering comparisons to one of the most electric players in NFL history, it’s hard to not get excited about this pick. Here’s to hoping that he lives up to that comparison and that the Jackson-Brown pairing will be one that burns defenses for years to come.
