This is a soft, feminine look, perfect for a first date or low-key evening. Start with a creamy, shimmering eye primer all over the lid and then pat on a strong pink shadow - I've chosen Mac's Rose Pigment - up to the crease and blend with an eye shadow brush towards the brow. Use a very thick mascara wand - I've chosen Maybelline's Colossal Volume Express which has a really big brush, giving the appearance of fluffy lashes rather than thin, spidery ones. Take a big blush brush and stroke a small amount over and under cheekbones, then up to the hairline. Photograph: Rui Faria/Guardian
A trick I use to give lips some natural oomph is to gently brush them with a toothbrush to bring a bit of colour to the surface. This will give them a nice glow which you can seal with a couple of coats of clear gloss.
