Makeup artist causes jaws to drop with how often brushes should be washed

Makeup is extremely versatile and is often interpreted as freedom of expression for many. However, there's something that we can all agree on - and that's that we use our makeup brushes without washing for longer than we like to admit.

Therefore, it's understandable that people have been left gobsmacked after a professional makeup artist has revealed how often you should wash your brushes - and the truth is shocking. Those that use makeup can all shamefully agree that their brushes from school have remained faithful and probably are in need of a good cleanse whether we like to admit it or not.

Sharing the video on popular social media site TikTok, @AskEllenBeauty has raked in a whopping 2.1 million views to date as she discussed the things that she'll never do as a makeup artist

She said: "I would never use my personal brush more than once before sanitising it.

"I once had a client who got a staph infection from using a dirty sponge - like her own dirty sponge obviously.

"Sanitise and change these regularly," she added.

As well as leaving viewers shocked with the life-changing lifespan, she also mentioned how she'll never purchase a limited edition holiday palette.

She said: "I would never buy a limited edition or holiday eyeshadow palette without swatching it to test the pigment.

"Limited edition items don't have an economy of scale so brands sometimes use a cheaper pigment in those items to save money.

"That means even with a brand you know and like the holiday palette is often chalky and not very good."

Following Ellen's essential's tips as a professional makeup artist, TikTokers rushed to the comment section as they were baffled about a statement in particular.

"My blender from five years ago sitting while I watch this video..." One user penned aside a confused emoji.

A second added: "Yesss some clients are surprised when I'm washing and sanitising my brushes as often as I do!"

"Wait, we're supposed to clean out brushes after ONE USE???" A third commented.

Ellen replied: "Yes sorry bestie. Quick dry brush cleaner is your friend."

A fourth wrote: "I swear, you give the BEST advice among the pro cosmetic content creators. Thank you!"
