'Go fetch him' - Nottingham Forest fans react after striker's surprising Reds admission

Britt Assombalonga heard that he 'woudn't play again' after sustaining an injury during his time at Nottingham Forest, and has impressed Reds fans with his comments during a podcast appearance.

“I really enjoyed my time (at Forest),” the 27-year-old told the FootySays podcast.

“I was really excited signing at (the club)."

Britt got off to the best start possiblr for Forest as he scored fifteen times in just 27 matches before he succumbed to a nasty ligament injury.

During a game with Wigan where he scored in a 3-0 victory, Assombalonga dislocated his knee and tore ligaments resulting in more than a year out. That changed everything for him.

“Everything happens for a reason and you’ve got to stay positive,” he said.

“It was hard, it was a big injury for me.

“I got told by the surgeon that I probably wouldn’t be able to play again – hearing that is tough, you’ve just moved, I was top goalscorer on 15 goals.

“Hearing that from the surgeon, it took me back and it made me think about life while at the same time wanting to prove him wrong and that’s what I did.”

He returned - and scored - admitting the power of the City Ground.

“When I scored that goal, for me, it felt like the ground was shaking there was that much noise. The packed stadium at the City Ground was amazing.

“The best one.”

The striker moved on to Middlesbrough for £15m, and Reds fans would love to have him back.

Here's how Forest supporters reacted to Assombalonga's admission.

Paul McGee: I'd have him back like a shot. If we could get him for about 5m great. Wages could be a problem though.

John Brodie : I’d like him back, would delight my lad.

James Kendi: Would drive him here myself!

Thomas Tole: Make that offer!

Robert Boot: Always liked him, I would give him a chance.

Chris Clark: He is a fantastic player and goal scorer, always felt something would happen when he got the ball.

Allan Whiteley: I'd go fetch him.

Alex Bastian: He would love to come back! I served him just before lockdown and he said he would love to come back! Make it happen....

Stephen Forman: Would be worth a punt at the right money.
