‘Make sure Prop 50 passes’: Barack Obama isn’t staying quiet, calling for major changes

With November right around the corner, special elections are rapidly approaching. In a country current fraught with political tension on both sides, several key issues remain more important than ever. One of those issues is California’s Prop 50.

Prop 50 ensures that California voters have the opportunity to fight back against cuts to healthcare, the continuously rising cost of living under tariffs, and the abductions and forced removals of immigrants under current Republican power.

It also proposes new lines for many of California’s 52 congressional districts. These new lines would negate the 5 additional Republican seats in U.S. House of Representatives, giving Democrats opportunity to gain those seats instead. Seems only fair, after all, given the…everything that they have put us through in the last calendar year alone.

We need the major changes now more than anything. It feels like much of our way of living is teetering on a very delicate, very dangerous edge. If we continue to let this grow unchecked, we risk the fire becoming something much more dangerous and unmanageable.

Former President Barack Obama took to the internet on October 22 to voice his approval for Prop 50. It was originally part of a livesteam with California governor Gavin Newsom as they tried to raise money and awareness about Prop 50. Currently, this makes him the highest-profile Democrat to showcase his support.

“Voters should pick their representatives, not the other way around,” Obama said in an X post. “Glad to get the chance to talk to some of the volunteers and organizers doing the hard work to make sure Prop 50 passes. This vote will have critical implications, not just for California, but for our entire country.”

Has it really been nearly 10 years since Obama was last in office? It somehow does and does not feel like it. Time flies when you’re miserable.
