Make magical fairy garden with the kids for £10 with these high street items

With many children still off school due to the coronavirus lockdown and the summer holidays fast approaching, parents are still looking for new ways to entertain their kids.

Getting out in the garden is a good way to keep children busy while getting some fresh air and fairy gardens are popular with little ones who believe in magic.

Websites like Pintrest are filled with pictures showing you how to create your own, but you might not know how to start or where to get the items from.

You can in fact make your own fairy garden using items you have lying around the house, and bargain home retailer Wilko has shown what you can buy from its stores to help the kids make their own fairy garden for under £10.

To get started you will need:

  • A plant pot
  • Soil and compost
  • Packet of seeds
  • Pebbles
  • Lolly sticks
  • Coloured card
  • Coloured pens

Fill the plant pot with soil and compost, then create a house using cuts of wood, or sticks strung together. You can also buy fairly cheap fairy doors on the high street.

Use the pebbles to create a pathway and then sprinkle over the seeds and water slightly.

At Wilko you can buy plant pots for £1.50, seed packets for 75p, 1kg bag of pebbles for £1.50, plastic garden solar butterfly light for £3, 50 pack lolly sticks for £1, eight pack coloured card for £1.25 and 15 pack fibre tip pens for 75p.

For tips and inspiration for parents during lockdown, make sure you sign up to our LemonAid newsletter.

Create signs for your fairy garden with the coloured card and pens - you might want to laminate, or cover in Sellotape, to keep dry.

Then use your imagination and add whatever you like to your fairy garden to make it unique.
