Make Late Late Toy Show a bank holiday, says senator

A Senator has called for the Late Late Toy Show day to be a bank holiday.

Fianna Fail Senator for Kildare Fiona O'Loughlin has lent her voice to a petition calling for a new bank holiday to coincide with the Toy Show.

Senator O'Loughlin said: " Every year all of us look forward to the last Friday in November.

"The Late Late Toy Show is an institution for children of all ages and has played a big part in Christmas for many years now.

"I felt it deserves to be recognised as a festive stand out in the lead up to Christmas.

"To recognise its significance in this regard, and to help children up and down the country prepare for the big night, I think it would be a tree-mendous idea to give them a dedicated bank holiday on that day."

The yearly extravaganza takes place this Friday, November 26 at 9.35pm on RTE One.

Speaking about potential themes for this year, Ryan Tubridy said: "You see, what we are doing with the Toy Show this year is, we get the sense... last year there was a sort of darkness in the air, and yet you had to make the colour shine through.

"This year, the darkness isn't as pronounced. If you're wondering where it's going to go, I think it is post-war fun and games and kind of crazy."
