
A majority of people say Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has performed well as prime minister during the past four years, according to the result of an opinion poll conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration, or Nida Poll.
The poll was conducted on Aug 20-23 on 1,291 people aged 18 and over of various levels of education and occupations throughout the country to compile their opinions on Gen Prayut's premiership after four years in office.
On his overall performance, 22.15% of the respondents said Gen Prayut has performed very well as prime minister and 48.96% fairly well, citing achievements such as law and order, and suppression of corruption; 18.28% said he has not performed well enough, particularly in solving economic problems; 9.53% said Gen Prayut has performed poorly, especially in terms of equality and the economy; and 1.08% were uncertain or had no comment.
Asked about his ideology, 77.46% said Gen Prayut is a person who works for the people and the nation; 18.90% said he has no ideology but works only for his own interests and the National Council for Peace and Order; and 3.64% were uncertain or had no comment.
On decisiveness, 77.61% said Gen Prayut has made many important political and administrative decisions; 19.60% said he does not dare to make important decisions; and 2.79% were uncertain or had no comment.
On leadership, 72.52% said Gen Prayut is a military-style leader; 15.10% said he has a democratic style of leadership; 8.29% said his style is half-democratic and half-military; and 2.09% were uncertain or had no comment.
On transparency, 60.19% said Gen Prayut's work style is transparent and accountable; 29.28% said he is not transparent and unaccountable; and 10.53% were uncertain or had no comment.
Regarding his efficiency, 67.93% of the respondents said he can efficiently solve the country's problems; 29.13% said otherwise; and 2.94% were uncertain or had no comment.
Asked to name five cabinet members whose work has impressed them, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak came first with 49.88%; Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam 48.80%; Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat 48.49%; Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda 47.02%; and Labour Minister Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew 46.09%.
