Majority of residents and staff at Irish nursing home 'test positive for Covid-19'

The majority of residents at an Irish nursing home have reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

The outbreak of the deadly virus, which has already claimed one life at the Co Galway facility, also infected a number of staff members.

Two further residents have reportedly been brought to hospital.

All staff and residents were tested after it emerged on Monday that a patient was positive.

And by 10pm on Tuesday night, 25 of the 27 people living in the home returned positive results, RTE reports.

All staff have now entered self isolation after 17 were infected with the bug, bringing the total number of cases linked to the facility to 42.

The home, which was Covid-free until this week, is now operating with minimal staff.
