Majority of people would not welcome US President Donald Trump into Ireland, poll finds

Two in three people believe Donald Trump should not be welcomed into Ireland, an Irish Mirror poll has found.

The controversial US President is set to visit his Doonbeg hotel in Co Clare in the coming weeks.

And more than 2,600 readers, out of an estimated 4,000 polled, would not let the billionaire into the country.

Despite the vast majority of voters on the Facebook poll agreeing he shouldn't be welcome into Ireland, many who commented on the post has dividing opinions.

One reader said: "Not a big fan of him but if we want to keep up a good relationship with the States we need to please this big baby."

Another said: "No. Our own politicians are a joke and Trump is an even bigger one."

Leo Varadkar makes u-turn on whether he thinks Donald Trump should visit Ireland

There has been an explosive reaction to the visit – but it seems not everyone is engaging in Trump-bashing as he prepares to visit his golf course.

Many believe those who think his feet shouldn’t land on Irish soil need to look at the bigger picture.

Julie Carty Whelan said: “What about all of the American companies here that employ thousands?

“Should we tell them to go home? The American people voted Trump in. Look closer to home and there are plenty of rouges.”

Declan Carroll said: “I hope many Irish remember the due courtesy and respect he has shown Ireland and us Irish during the St Patrick’s Day shenanigans at the White House.”

Anita Jenkins said: “Just what we need a lying pussy grabbing president who is a narcissist childish bully. Sure cèad mìle fàilte.”

Carrie Schuett said: “No! He shouldn’t be welcomed anywhere! If you’ve been paying attention to any of his comments, actions or policies you would have a clue as of to why!”

Coinneach O’Braion said: “The people who don’t like him are basing their decisions off the media and his idea of building a wall while the exact same people will give out about refugees being housed before our homeless.”

Ceallaigh Ni Bheirnight said: “He’s no worse than the shower that is already here. Come on over and we will wine and dine you like no other Donald. The taxpayer loves handing out here.”

Margaret Culhane said: “Build a wall keep him out.”

Damien O’Toole said: “Fckng w*nker build a wall and stop the c*nt!”
