A recent poll conducted by SSRS reveals that most Americans believe former President Donald Trump will not concede if he loses the upcoming presidential election in November. Despite the general consensus that the loser of an election should accept the results and concede, only about half of registered voters view Trump's false claims of winning the 2020 election as a reason to vote against him in 2024.
On the other hand, a significant 78% majority of Americans express confidence that President Joe Biden would accept the election results and concede if he were to lose in November. However, approximately 71% of Americans doubt that Trump would concede if he faces another loss, with only 28% believing he would do so. This skepticism has persisted since January, although there has been a slight increase in the number of Republicans who now think Trump would concede a loss.
During a June presidential debate, Trump evaded a direct answer about accepting this year's election results, eventually stating that he would do so only if the election was deemed fair, legal, and good. He reiterated claims of election fraud, despite there being no evidence to support such allegations that could have impacted the outcome of the 2020 election.
Overall, doubts about Trump's willingness to concede have remained relatively consistent since January, although they are higher compared to October 2020 when a smaller majority of US adults expressed similar concerns. The issue of concession in the event of an election loss continues to be a topic of interest and speculation as the upcoming election draws closer.
