Major works to restore fire-ravaged Cameron House get underway

Major works to restore fire-ravaged five-star hotel Cameron House have started.

Taken last week, this photograph shows scaffolding covering the historic facade of the iconic building.

It comes 19 months after a blaze ripped through the hotel on December 18 2017, tragically killing Richard Dyson, 38, and Simon Midgley, 32.

The Crown Office is leading the investigation into their deaths, which is still to receive final reports from Police Scotland. Enquiries are ongoing.

Owners are undertaking an £18.5million revamp of the building after receiving approval from Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority, retaining the B-listed facade and rebuilding the entire internal frame, which is too badly damaged to be restored.

They are also adding a 70-bedroom extension, which they say was planned before the fire.

The reconstruction comes a year after the building was handed back to owners seven months after the fatal blaze.

They anticipate Cameron House will reopen in early 2020.
