Major water mains burst in Belfast city centre

A major water mains burst is set to cause delays in Belfast city centre.

The incident occurred around 10.30 on Tuesday evening at the junction of Durham Street and Grosvenor Road in the heart of the city.

Northern Ireland Water, whose engineers have arrived on site, have said repair work to the water mains is ongoing and will continue throughout Wednesday morning.

Northern Ireland Water also warned that repairs could affect travel during peak traffic in the morning rush hour.

A statement from Trafficwatch NI on Twitter on Tuesday evening read: " #Belfast - There has been a major water mains burst on #DurhamStreet at the Junction with the #GrosvenorRd.

"Staff from NIW have been on site to repair the water mains and the work is ongoing in the morning.

"Delays are possible for traffic during the morning rush hour."
