Major traffic problems in Nottingham city centre as emergency services deal with flat fire

A busy road through Nottingham city centre is closed this morning following a fire at a block of flats.

Seven crews of firefighters were called to the blaze at Marco Island, off Huntingdon Street, at 5.40am on Friday, July 16,

The fire was on the 11th floor of the building and police and paramedics are also in attendance, alongside firefighters from Derbyshire.

Traffic monitoring website Inrix is reporting queuing traffic in the surrounding area.

Huntingdon Street is now closed at the junction of King Edward Street while the emergency services continue to deal with the incident.

This snapshot from Google Maps shows traffic tailing back as far as the Trinity Church in Mansfield Road.
