Major Stockport road closed as emergency services respond to four-car pile up

Emergency services have closed a busy Stockport Road after reports of a crash between four cars.

Fire crews, police and paramedics were all scrambled to Wellington Road North in Heaton Chapel shortly after 7pm to reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Footage seen by the Manchester Evening News shows a number of vehicles stranded in the middle of the road.

Some drivers are seen being attended to by fire crews and paramedics.

It is not yet known if anyone has been injured, or the extent of injuries.

Traffic appears to be backing up towards Stockport Road, and road users are being urged to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Manchester Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 7.21pm to Wellington Road North to a crash involving four vehicles."

"Currently there are two fire engines and Technical Response Unit on route.

"The road has now been shut and people are being urged to avoid the area."
