Major step forward in £105m project to build 665 homes in Leeds

Work is underway on a £105m project to build 665 apartments in Leeds.

Construction company Galliford Try has been awarded the contract to build five apartment blocks on the former Monk Bridge steelworks site, just off Whitehall Road.

The blocks, which will range from 12 storeys to 22 storeys in height, will contain one, two and three-bedroom apartments that will all be available for rent.

The new apartment blocks will be built next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal and abandoned railway arches next to the buildings will be redeveloped to pave the way for shops, cafes and restaurants.

Bill Hocking, chief executive of Galliford Try, said: “We are delighted to be able to start work on such a prestigious development in the heart of Leeds.

"This scheme is a significant investment in the current economic environment and our excellent track record in high-density residential building has led Highline to place their trust in Galliford Try to deliver for their customers.”
