Major sports complex next to Derby County’s stadium to relaunch following revamp

A major sports complex on a busy Derby business park is set to be relaunched after undergoing a significant external revamp.

The complex, next to Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium, has been given a fresh new look - with new signage and a new name - Pride Leisure - to reflect the variety of leisure businesses it accommodates.

The property, in Derwent Parade, is home to a DW Sports store and gym, Oxygen Freejumping trampoline park and Powerleague Derby Soccerdome indoor football.

The building is owned by a fund managed by Clearbell Capital, who advised that all of these businesses have recently signed new long-term leases.

Clearbell originally applied to Derby City Council to refurbish the building at the beginning of 2018. Planning permission was eventually granted in April last year.

In the original planning documents, submitted to the city council by Maber Architects, on behalf of Clearbell, it said: “The proposal will make improvements to the existing building by altering the main entrance facade and paving materials and renewing existing shop front signage.

“The primary objectives include freshening up the tired appearance of the existing frontage and provide a contemporary and attractive look and feel, to advertise and promote the commercial tenants in the building and make a positive contribution to the appearance of the area.

“The proposals will result in a material improvement to the building facade provide a visual unity to the entrance.”

Adam James, senior asset manager at Clearbell Capital, said he was delighted with the end result.

He said: “All four of our tenants - DW Sports, DW Fitness, Powerleague and Oxygen Freejumping - have recently signed up to new 15-year leases at Pride Leisure showing their long-term commitment to Derby and Pride Park as a leading regional sports and leisure destination.

“As landlords, we have also invested in re-branding the site and refurbishing the entrance to improve the customer experience.”

Steve Basran, director at Maber Architects, said: “We are delighted to see this scheme come to fruition. It has been much anticipated and will have a positive impact on customer experience.

“The design looks sharp and crisp and we are confident the revamp will encourage more visitors to enjoy and engage with the exciting sport and leisure activities on offer.”
